The New Walkway in Estepona at Punta de la Plata was opened a few weeks ago. A new section of the “Litoral Path” joins two seafront promenades and allows a pedestrian route of more than three kilometers in Estepona.
It is now possible to walk or bike from the port marina to the El Angel park. The new walkway, consisting a long wooden bridge, starting from the area of Punta de la Plata, was made possible by an investment of 245,00€ from the Town Hall.
The Litoral Path has a total of about 23 kilometers in the municipality of Estepona, approximately 15 kilometers has been constructed so far for pedestrians and bicyclists to use. It is envisaged that, within the next few years, all 23 kilometers will have been constructed and joined.
The High Court in Andalucia has ordered the Town Hall of Estepona to compensate property owners in the port area for loss of rental income. The owners had sued the Town Hall due to excessive noise produced by bars in Estepona Port. The case was originally brought against the Town Hall, by a group of residents, in 2008. It has taken more the seven years to finally get a decision after the Town Hall rejected the original claim.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for the Town Hall to use the fact that, justice is an extremely slow and expensive process in Spain, to try to deter residents from making legitimate claims.
Storm Damage EsteponaRecent storms, that have brought particularly high levels of rainfall, are causing damage to properties in Estepona. Particularly vulnerable are those properties that face the sea.
Estepona celebrated 25 years since the Virgen del Carmen was officially named patron saint of the town. An extraordinary procession was held with a large firework display, close to the port, straight afterwards.
Property sales are on the increase. A recent report indicates that in the areas of Marbella, Estepona and Benahavis, property sales have increased significantly. With the volume of sales in these three areas, for the whole of 2014, only 0.7% behind that of the 2006 peak. Whereas in other areas of the Costa del Sol sales have remained relatively flat, Marbella, Estepona and Benahavis are increasing. Good news for owners of Estepona property.
Along the promenade in Estepona both tourists and locals can play chess for free on one of the town’s four 20 square metre chess boards. Estepona Chess
The game is very popular in Estepona, with the town hall also providing six tabletop chess sets on the site. The chess boards, both big and small, are available from 7.30pm onwards Mondays to Fridays.
The new Orchid House and Botanical gardens opened last weekend in Estepona. It is the largest Orchid House in Europe being over 1000 sq meters in size.
It has three glass domes providing natural light. The largest of the domes is over 30 meters in height.
The plan is to eventually have over 8,000 different species of orchid on display.
The cost for building the Orchid and Botanical gardens was 2.3 million Euros.
The gardens are located close to the end of Calle Terraza. About 200 meters up from Plaza de Huevos (Egg Square).
A luxury property development is planned to start later this year in Estepona. Over 200€ million is planned to be invested in the project. Over 400 Luxury homes will be built. Occupying a plot of over 70,000 sq meters, located near to the Parque de Las Meses. The development is expected to be finished in 2018.
On the very same day that the new Malaga Metro system was opened by Ana Pastor, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, she announced that viability studies were already being undertaken looking into the extension of the train line from Malaga through Marbella to Estepona. If there is deemed to be sufficient demand works could begin soon.
